Summer Bat Walks 2017

These evening walks with Auckland Council staff provides an interesting evening out for those who would like to know more about the Waitakere Ranges and its unique forest inhabitants. The initial part of the evening will be spent learning about the interesting ecology of our secretive Long-tailed bats and hopefully spotting them as dusk approaches. After dark we then head off for a one hour easy walk along a bush track to look at other nocturnal animals that inhabit the bush and stream.

This walk is within the capability of most able walkers. As the second part of the evening involves track walking in the dark, please consider this when booking. You are welcome to only participate in the bat information session and opt out of the walk if you wish. Costs, however, remain the same.

Bookings essential

Contact Auckland Council phone (09) 3010101. As bookings are very limited we would appreciate at least 48 hours notice if you are no longer able to come so your space can be offered to someone else.

If adverse weather conditions are forecast for the evening concerned, the leader will have to make the decision about cancellation before 10am on the day of the walk.

Staff will be in touch to inform all participants in case of cancellation and provide and alternative date.

For safety reasons please do not bring your dogs.  These night walks take place within the Ark in the Park Sanctuary at Cascade Kauri where dogs are not allowed.
