Please note that booking hours for regional parks campgrounds, SCC campgrounds, SCC parking areas, baches and bookable sites is as follows:

Daylight saving: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday through to Sunday
Non daylight saving: 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday through to Sunday

No bookings can be taken over the phone (or in person on site) outside of these times.

No cash payments are available at any time on park. We strongly recommend that you call our contact centre in advance of your arrival on park on (09) 366 2000, option 2, to make your booking.

Animals (except aid dogs) are prohibited at all times.

If you under the age of 18 you will be required to get parental consent to make a campground booking.

All our regional parks are rubbish free. Whether you call it rubbish, trash or garbage, please bag it all up and recycle it or throw it away when you return home.

Important notice

Please note the campground is closed from 7th June to 22nd September over the winter months


It is not recommended that campers take trailers, caravans, 5th wheelers and horse floats to the camp ground unless they have a suitable vehicle. Two wheel drive and especially front wheel drive vehicles are definitely not recommended for towing on the access road.

About Atiu Creek Campground

This is a vehicle-based campground located on the northern side of the parks near Solomon's Bay. It is 3.1 km into the park from the main car park. There is a holding paddock for horses next to the campground so that riders horses can stay overnight. Limits and conditions apply. Stay up to seven days and explore Atiu Creek Regional Park on your horse, mountain bike, or on foot.

Booking restriction period: Availabe for bookings from 23 September to 5 June.
Potable water: A potable water (dam supply) tap in front of the toilet block.
Toilet block: One toilet block with 3 unisex toilets, one of which has wheel chair access. The toilet block is half way down on the eastern side of the camp ground. The toilet block is shared with day visitors.
Horses: There is a holding paddock alongside the campground for horses to stay in over night.
  • Riders must have a network horse riding pass.
  • For safety, horses are prohibited from the campground at all times.
  • Limits on horse numbers and conditions apply.
  • Must book in horse numbers at the same time the campground booking is made.
Access: The campground and the park are not accessible after park closing times. The combination codes will not open the main park entrance gate.
Special vehicle access: Due to steepness, hair pin corners on sections of the single lane gravel access road to the camp ground.
  • Vehicles may have difficulty on the steeper sections and hair pin corners of the road.
  • Particular care must be taken when road and ground conditions are wet.
  • It is not recommended that campers take trailers, caravans, 5th wheelers and horse floats to the camp ground unless they have a suitable vehicle.

Prohibited: Large buses, horse trucks, 5th Wheelers, campervans and horse floats over 8 meters in length, and all other trucks and portable container dwellings.
 
Layout: Long rectangular shape, access through the centre with camping allowed anywhere in the camp ground.
Ground Surface: Flat.
Rubbish: There are recycle and general rubbish containers and a worm container for biodegradable food waste in the campground.
