Information

Please note that booking hours for regional parks campgrounds, SCC campgrounds, SCC parking areas, baches and bookable sites is as follows:

Daylight saving: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday through to Sunday
Non daylight saving: 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday through to Sunday

No bookings can be taken over the phone (or in person on site) outside of these times.

No cash payments are available at any time on park. We strongly recommend that you call our contact centre in advance of your arrival on park on (09) 366 2000, option 1, to make your booking.

Animals (except aid dogs) are prohibited at all times.

Remember to be a tidy Kiwi!

All our regional parks are rubbish free. Whether you call it rubbish, trash or garbage, please bag it all up and recycle it or throw it away when you return home.

Important notice

During peak period a minimum two night stay applies at this bach over weekends (Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun


Horses can stay overnight when you stay in the Courtyard House.

  • There is a holding paddock for horses to stay overnight alongside the Courtyard House.
  • Limits on horse numbers and conditions apply.
  • Riders must have a network horse riding pass

About Courtyard House

Main House 

Courtyard House has a large open-plan kitchen and dining area, expansive living room, a sun-room/conservatory all opening out on to a large patio area, a large boardroom/conference room. There are two bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, plus large double garage and laundry. Capacity of 12 people

The Annex

The Annex, fully self-contained, has a small open-plan kitchen/diner/living room, large bed room and bathroom, plus its own garage. Capacity of 2 people. The annex is accessed via a covered walkway and corridor from the living area of the main house.

The Shearers’ Quarters

The Shearers’ Quarters is a little rustic, fully self-contained unit, has kitchen/dining area, small double bedroom and separate men’s and women’s showers/ toilets downstairs, with two more bedrooms up stairs. There is also a garage and laundry. Capacity of 9 people. The Shearers’ Quarters can be accessed via a covered walkway at the other end of the courtyard or through the garages from the Annex.

The Event Outbuilding

This is a large open space with a stage at one end, and large garage doors that open out on to the courtyard.  Accessed via a covered walkway opposite the shearers quarters.

The Event Outbuilding can in be booked in addition to the main house/Annex. Not able to be booked separately. Available Thursday to Sunday nights Feb to May,

Booking restriction period: Off peak period is June-September (incl). This bach can be booked up to six months from todays month. e.g. In June you may make a booking for a date in December.

Cleaning: Bach operates on a self-clean basis.
Bedrooms:

Sleeps a total of 23 people. All beds have inner sprung mattresses with a mattress and pillow protectors supplied. Visitors must supply their own bed linen, blankets, duvets, sleeping bag and any additional pillows.

Main house

Sleeps 12: has two bedrooms in the main building (one queen bed and one single in each), plus three single beds with a trundle bed under each available for use in bedrooms, sunroom or the boardroom/library.

Annex

Sleeps 2: has one bedroom Two king/single beds.

Shearers quarters

Sleeps 9: Downstairs one bedroom with a double Bed. Up Stairs Loft type rooms idea as a kids get away space are 2 bedrooms one with four and the other with three single beds.

Bathroom:

Main house

The main bathroom is adjacent to bedroom 1. This bathroom is a shared shower/toilet. The shower is overhead the bathtub. There is a full vanity with sink and an additional hand-basin. Heated towel rails and a bidet. There are also safety handrails for the shower and toilet. Rubber bath-mats are supplied. The second bathroom is a large ensuite off bedroom 2. This bathroom is also a shared shower/toilet. The shower has safety rails and a fold-down seat. Heated towel rails. The third bathroom in the main house is off the main entrance/foyer area and has only a toilet and hand-basin, with safety rails.

Annex

Has own bathroom with shared shower/toilet and hand basin. The shower is overhead a bathtub.

Shearers quarters

Has separate men’s and women’s bath room. Women’s bath room is shared showers/toilets. Men’s bath room is shared showers/toilets

Kitchen:
  • A toaster, electric jug, pots/pans, cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery are provided in all three kitchens, the main house, annex and shearers quarters.
  • To protect the septic system please do not tip any fat or fatty products down the sink.
  • Dishwashing detergent provided for hand washing, as well as powder for the dishwasher. Bring own tea towels.

Main house

The large dining /kitchen area is open plan with a large bar-style bench-top, electric oven, electric stove-top and double dish drawers. There is a large walk-in pantry adjoining the food preparation area; the microwave, full fridge and upright freezer are located in here. The two dining tables seat 14.

Annex

Shearers quarters

Small open plan dining/kitchen area with fridge/freezer and electric stove and table that seats 6 to 8 persons.

Power Supply: Standard domestic power supply.
Water: Dam supply, potable.
Heating:

Main house

Main heating is from a built in gas heater. There are wall-mounted electric heaters in the two bedrooms and one in the sun room. There are two electric oil column heaters in the main house.

Annex

One electric oil column heater in the lounge, and wall-mounted electric heaters in the bedroom and the foyer

Shearers quarters

Two electric oil column heaters, one down stairs and the both up stairs.

Rubbish: There is a bin inside the bach, please use the Council rubbish bags provided and place tied rubbish bas in the wheelie bin outside the main entrance door.
You need to supply: Bed linen, blankets, duvets, sleeping bags, additional pillows, towels, tea towels, food, person items etc.
Tents and Campervans Not allowed at any time.
Horses:
  • There is a holding paddock next to the Courtyard House for horses to stay in overnight.
  • Limited to one horse per bach user and a total number of 20 horses. Conditions apply.
  • Riders must have a network horse riding pass.

Directions

  • From the Run Road turn off, follow Run Road for approx: 4.5kms.
  • There is a park sign on the right. "Atiu Creek Regional Park entrance 600 meters".
  • Turn right at this sign into the bach entrance driveway.
  • Go through the single white painted gate. Note: There is a sign on the gate "Private Road. Takahe and Atiu Bach and Courtyard House access only".  You will need the combination code to get through this gate.
  • Follow the internal metal farm road for 1.7km passing the Takahe and Atiu baches and Courtyard House is directly ahead (on the top of the hill).
  • Courtyard House is as far as bach users can take their vehicle on this internal road.  The rest of the park can be accessed on foot or by driving back to Run Road, turning right and accessing the main entrance 600m further down Run Road.
