Walking track

This is an easy ridge line trail to the Heretoka Pa site with great views of the surrounding estuaries to the north and south. From the car park follow the Oruawharo River Trail to the west (the same direction as the Reservoir Walk). The Reservoir Walk branches off to the right 500 metres on from the ramp at the entrance to the track and below the Pa site (please no mountain biking on the pa). There are no coloured markers for this walk.

What to expect

Walking tracks should be suitable for people with reasonable fitness levels.

Walking tracks will:
  • Have easy to moderate grades with mostly compacted and drained surfaces.
  • Be well sign-posted with directional signs at track entrances and junctions and have safety signs where required.
Walking tracks may:
  • Have steps on excessively steep areas.
  • Have timber boardwalks and bridges over permanent wet areas and waterways.
  • Have seats and maintained views at areas of interest.


Theft from vehicles is not common but unfortunately can happen. You should take the same reasonable precautions you take when parking at other locations and remember to lock your vehicle and take your valuables with you.
