Camping

There are 44 campgrounds throughout the regional parks ranging from beach front to back country.  Call (09) 301 0101 to make a booking.  To save time, you can book multiple campgrounds at the same time.

Campgrounds must be vacated by 11am on the day of departure.  Campers can arrive from the main park entrance gate opening time.  If no space is available, wait until a space becomes available after 11am vacation time.

If you under the age of 18 you will be required to get parental consent to make a campground booking.

Ambury Campground Ambury Campground 60 people Ambury has basic, flat camping with toilets and drinking water nearby. Bring your tent, campervan, caravan or light trailer but please get a permit first.
Anawhata
Craw Campground Craw Campground 40 people Campground designed and developed for use by walkers of the Hillary Trail. The camping area is a grassed open area at the old Craw Homestead site on top of a ridge off Anawhata Road.
Atiu Creek
Atiu Creek Campground Atiu Creek Campground 60 people This is a vehicle-based campground located on the northern side of the parks near Solomon's Bay. It is 3.1 km into the park from the main car park.

Brook Homestead Campground Brook Homestead Campground 80 people Campgrounds are basic with toilets, barbecues and drinking water nearby. Bring your tent, campervan, caravan or light trailer but please get a permit first. Peninsula Campground Peninsula Campground 60 people Campgrounds are basic with toilets, barbecues and drinking water nearby. Bring your tent, campervan, caravan or light trailer but please get a permit first.
Cascade Kauri
Opanuku Pipeline Campground Opanuku Pipeline Campground 20 people Vehicle access via gate on Mountain Road to a formed carpark in a clearing next to the stream where tents can be pitched. Pae o te Rangi Campground Pae o te Rangi Campground 30 people Pae o te Rangi is a working farm with spectacular views. The farm can be accessed from Long Road or from the stockyards and car park at Te Henga Road. It is a 40 minute walk to the campground.
Duder
Te Wharau (Malua Bay) Campground Te Wharau (Malua Bay) Campground 20 people Located on the secluded Te Wharau (Malua Bay), this campgrounds has flat, undulating grass terraces. a feature of the site are the two large poplars, known as "Baileys Hammock". The sea kayak based campground is for those paddling along Te Ara Moana.

Barn Paddock Campground Barn Paddock Campground 60 people A back-to-basics campground set near the parks woolshed on rolling pasture with a backdrop of forest clad hills and a bush stream nearby. Karamatura Valley Campground Karamatura Valley Campground 40 people This back-to-basics campground is in the Karamatura Valley and is only accessible by foot.
Hunua Ranges
Adam's Lookout Campground Adam's Lookout Campground 20 people This site is a remote site with no water supply. Unless you are familiar with this site, we recommend going to Thousand Acres campground which has a toilet, shelter and water supply. Lower Mangatawhiri Campground Lower Mangatawhiri Campground 40 people Only accessible by foot. Mangatangi Trig Campground Mangatangi Trig Campground 20 people Campsite based midway around loop walk from Mangatawhiri Dam carpark. Walk up Lilburne Road, left onto Pukapuka Track; the campsite is just accross the road to the start of the Mangatangi Trig track. Piggotts Campground Piggotts Campground 20 people These bush clad ranges with streams, waterfalls and magnificent vistas offer a natural playground less than an hours drive from Auckland. The park is the largest native forest in the Auckland region. Repeater Campground Repeater Campground 20 people Campground is located off Challenge mountain bike track (Wairoa Loop track end) easy access 1- 2hr walk from Wairoa Dam carpark. Thousand Acres Campground Thousand Acres Campground 20 people Off Mangatangi Ridge Track - closest to Waharau Ridge Track end. Steep track recommended for experienced trampers only. Odlins 2 Campground Odlins 2 Campground 20 people Small tent sites, tramping access from Lone Kauri Rd. Tramp in access only.
Mahurangi
Lagoon Bay Campground Lagoon Bay Campground 20 people Lagoon Bay Campground is located at Mahurangi East and is only accessible by boat. The beach is very tidal - at low tide visitors will need to walk 250m up the muddy beach. Mita Bay Campground Mita Bay Campground 40 people No vehicle access. Accessible by foot at low tide. Sullivan's Bay Campground Sullivan's Bay Campground 30 people This is the only vehicle based campground in Mahurangi and is very popular so you need to book in fast. It's a great location for swimming, picnics, water sports, walking and exploring. Te Muri Beach Campground Te Muri Beach Campground 80 people Make your way on foot or by boat to this beachside campground at Mahurangi West. Cross Te Muri Estuary at low tide.

Cliff Top Campground Cliff Top Campground 100 people Campground situated on gently sloping ground with tall tree hedge rows.
Shakespear
Te Haruhi Bay Campground Te Haruhi Bay Campground 160 people Is an all modes campground behind the sand dunes at the very eastern end of Te Haruhi Bay.
Tapapakanga
Beach Front Campground Beach Front Campground 40 people Vehicle accessible camp ground located next to the Ashby Beach foreshore. Sea View Campground Sea View Campground 40 people Vehicle based campsite. Despite it's name, the campground does not have a sea view. Waikaha Stream Campground Waikaha Stream Campground 20 people Located at the southern end of the park, the campground has flat, undulating teraces.
Tawharanui
Tāwharanui All Modes Campground Tāwharanui All Modes Campground 90 people Is on the northern coast and allowed all modes of camping up to 8 meters in length: Purpose-built vans, campermatics, trailer tents, caravans, 5th-wheelers, campervans and small buses. No Self-Containment certificate is required. Tents allowed. Tāwharanui Tents Only Campground Tāwharanui Tents Only Campground 200 people A stand-alone tent only campground (no sleeping in vehicles is allowed) on the northern coast behind the sand dunes between Phoenix Reef and Comet rock.
Tawhitokino
Tawhitokino Campground Tawhitokino Campground 20 people Campground is at the far end of Tawhitokino Beach. Access by foot only at low tide.
Waharau
Blackberry Flats Campground Blackberry Flats Campground 40 people Blackberry Flats Campground Tainui Campground Tainui Campground 60 people On the eastern side of the rugged Hunua Ranges, Waharau extends from the range to the coast. Enjoy farmland, river banks and forest areas for camping, picnics, walking and mountain biking.
Waitawa
Waitawa Bay Sea Kayak Campground Waitawa Bay Sea Kayak Campground 20 people Located in Waitawa Bay, this campground has outstanding views across to the Coromandal Range and Moehau. The site has flat undulating terraces. Waitawa Camping Waitawa Camping There is no current provision for camping at Waitawa Regional Park. Camping is not permitted at Mataitai Bay.
Wenderholm
Schischka "assisted" campground Schischka "assisted" campground 2 people Two pre-erected tents in the small section beside the main Schischka campground. The Puhoi River estuary is a few steps away. Wenderholm beach is approx: 1.5 km by road from the campground. Schischka Campground Schischka Campground 160 people A new campground alongside the Puhoi River estuary. Lots of young trees throughout the campground will only provide limited shade and wind shelter. The Wenderholm beach is approx: 1.5 km by road from the campground.
Whakanewha
Poukaraka Flats Campground Poukaraka Flats Campground 80 people To really do justice in describing the appeal of this campground we would need to build a dedicated website. It really is worth the trip.
Whatipu
Pararaha Valley Campground Pararaha Valley Campground 40 people The Whatipu area is a Scientific Reserve owned by the Department of Conservation and managed on behalf by the Auckland Council Regional Parks. It is a spectacular area of coastal dunes and wetlands. Tunnel Point Campground Tunnel Point Campground 20 people This campground is only accessible by foot. Whatipu Caves Campground Whatipu Caves Campground 20 people Camp at the Whatipu Caves, only accessible by foot. Whatipu Lodge Campground Whatipu Lodge Campground 80 people Part of the land administered under licence, this campground is part of the historical Whatipu Lodge. With plenty of flat grass areas, there are multiple places to pitch your tent while you explore the scientific reserve.
