Farm Loop Walk

Other tracks

Walking track

Follow the red waymarkers from the car park through the rolling farmland, with its peacefully grazing sheep and cattle, and enjoy some of the best coastal views in the Auckland region. Try putting names to the Hauraki Gulf islands you see as you walk – Waiheke, Rotoroa, Rangitoto, Pakihi, Pönui, Pakatoa, Passage Rock, Motuihe, Motutapu and Motukörea are all visible. A detour off this loop track leads to a rocky coast with a couple of sheltered, sandy bays. Check before you go, as there are vehicle gates which may be locked.

Farm Loop Walk details

Regional park: Click here for information about 'Duder' (including gate opening hours)
Distance: 4.3 km
Time: 2 hours 0 minutes
Wheelchair access: Yes. This walk is accessible using most mobility equipment. The path surface is mainly small loose gravel which does not involve much pushing effort on the flat areas. There is one section prior to the stock yards with an approximate 1:8 or 12% gradient. The track is gently sloping up to the stock yards and beyond. Unfortunately, the entire loop is not safely accessible due to the very steep descent back to the car park, but half the loop is well worth the effort.
Pram access: No

What to expect

Walking tracks should be suitable for people with reasonable fitness levels.

Walking tracks will:
  • Have easy to moderate grades with mostly compacted and drained surfaces.
  • Be well sign-posted with directional signs at track entrances and junctions and have safety signs where required.
Walking tracks may:
  • Have steps on excessively steep areas.
  • Have timber boardwalks and bridges over permanent wet areas and waterways.
  • Have seats and maintained views at areas of interest.

Theft from vehicles is not common but unfortunately can happen. You should take the same reasonable precautions you take when parking at other locations and remember to lock your vehicle and take your valuables with you.
