Route
Mangatangi Ridge Track starts off Rata Ridge Track. The track begins with a steep climb onto the main ridge and heads toward the highest point in the Hunua Ranges, Mt Kohukohunui. Views of the Coromandel Peninsula and the Firth of Thames can be experienced. The track descends east to the Mangatangi River and then climbs steeply toward the Kohukohunui Track. This track is remote and rugged and suitable for experienced trampers only. Note that in bad weather, visibility can be reduced to zero.

What to expect
Lightly cut marked or unmarked tracks, often steep. Streams and rivers may be unbridged. Boots are recommended. Suitable for fit, well equipped and experienced walkers.
Security
Theft from vehicles is not common but unfortunately can happen.
You should take the same reasonable precautions you take when parking at other locations and remember to lock your vehicle and take your valuables with you.
