Pohutukawa Glade Walk is located in Karekare regional park
Pohutukawa Glade Walk is not so much a walking track as an experience. This trail provides access to the southern end of Karekare beach; however, it is the path beneath the majestic spreading Pohutakawa branches that is the attraction. Not only do the pohutukawa provide shade and shelter from the wind and sun, they seem to exude a feeling of calmness making the glade a popular spot for relationship ceremonies. The real treasure here is a hidden grassy picnic spot complete with toilet and tables located beside the start of the Zion Hill Track.
The walk leaves Lone Kauri Road across the bridge adjacent to the Karekare parking area. It then passes through the grassy picnic areas along level sandy track and out over dunes at the south end of Karekare Beach. You may get wet feet from surface water after heavy rain.
Easy access short walks are suitable for everyone, including assisted wheelchair users, mountain buggies, and young families. All easy access short walks are part of the path classification of tracks and are suitable for people of most ages, mobility and fitness.
Theft from vehicles is not common but unfortunately can happen.
