Please note that booking hours for regional parks campgrounds, SCC campgrounds, SCC parking areas, baches and bookable sites is as follows:

Daylight saving: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday through to Sunday
Non daylight saving: 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday through to Sunday

No bookings can be taken over the phone (or in person on site) outside of these times.

No cash payments are available at any time on park. We strongly recommend that you call our contact centre in advance of your arrival on park on (09) 366 2000, option 1, to make your booking.

Animals (except aid dogs) are prohibited at all times.

If you under the age of 18 you will be required to get parental consent to make a campground booking.

All our regional parks are rubbish free. Whether you call it rubbish, trash or garbage, please bag it all up and recycle it or throw it away when you return home.

Important notice

Please ensure you book and set up in the correct campground, to avoid having to move camp.


Takatu Road:

Major road works will be undertaken by Auckland Transport this summer to upgrade and seal the last 4km of road to Tāwharanui Regional Park.  The works will reduce the road to one lane and cause delays.  Please take extra care when traveling along this section of Tukatu Road.

About Tāwharanui All Modes Campground

Is an all modes (up to 8 meters in length) campground on the northern coast behind the sand dunes between Phoenix Reef and Comet rock. The campground is located in the Tawharanui Open Sanctuary. To help keep the open sanctuary free of pests please check your vehicle and belongings for stowaway pests before you visit.

Adult: $15.00 18 years and over
Child: $6.00 5 - 17 years
Infant: $0.00 Under 5 years
Max persons: 90
Max stay (peak): 7 nights
Max stay (off-peak): 7 nights
Booking restriction period: This site can be booked up to six months from todays month. e.g. In June you may make a booking for a date in December.
Toilets: One vault toilet block with 3 unisex cubicles. 1 of the 3 cubicles is wheelchair friendly.
Potable water: There are potable water taps around the campground.
Access:
  • The campground and the park are not accessible after park closing times.
  • The combination codes will not open the main park entrance gate.
Permitted:
  • All modes of camping, up to 8 meters in length purpose built vans, campermatics, trailer tents, caravans, 5th Wheelers, campervans and small buses.
  • No Self-Containment certificate required.
Prohibited:
  • Large buses, campervans, 5th Wheelers and caravans, purpose built vans, campermatics, trailer tents over 8 meters in length.
  • All trucks and portable container dwellings.
Layout:

From the Tawharanui All Modes Campground access point the camp opens out with alcoves around the boundaries of the camping area.

Ground surface:

Flat and undulating. When maximum numbers are reached, flat camping spots can be at a premium.

Showers:

No showers. Campers need to bring their own solar shower, shower tent and solar shower support. Showers must not be hung from trees.

Rubbish:
  • There are labeled molok recycle and general rubbish containers at the campground near the stock yards.
  • Only put recycle items into the recycling container as sign posted.
  • Dispose all biodegradable food waste as sign posted in the worm bin.
Fires:
  • Are prohibited at all times
Please Note:
  • Maximum of 7 consecutive nights allowed at this campground.
  • All camping equipment must be removed from the park on the departure day.
  • These conditions apply to any group or individual irrespective of booking name.

Directions

  • Take the metal campground access road off the main access road, at the end of the tar seal, to the left. •Go through the wooden gate with the combination lock. At this point it is signposted Tawharanui "Campgrounds". •Approx. 550 meters down the metal access road you pass the park cattleyards. •Then take the access road to the left (west) as signposted into Tāwharanui All modes Campground.
