Track Closed

The section of track linking the beach at Maori Bay to the South Coast Track is closed until further notice.

A large section of track has been completely washed away from the storms at the end of July making the track impassable.

From the Lagoon carpark, wander around the south coast over the rocks to Maori Bay (access from mid to low tide only). At Maori Bay, join the South Coast Track for the return trip to the Lagoon carpark.

What to expect

Walking tracks should be suitable for people with reasonable fitness levels.

Walking tracks will:
  • Have easy to moderate grades with mostly compacted and drained surfaces.
  • Be well sign-posted with directional signs at track entrances and junctions and have safety signs where required.
Walking tracks may:
  • Have steps on excessively steep areas.
  • Have timber boardwalks and bridges over permanent wet areas and waterways.
  • Have seats and maintained views at areas of interest.


Theft from vehicles is not common but unfortunately can happen. You should take the same reasonable precautions you take when parking at other locations and remember to lock your vehicle and take your valuables with you.
