Walking track

Walking tracks should be suitable for people with reasonable fitness levels.

Walking tracks will:
  • Have easy to moderate grades with mostly compacted and drained surfaces.
  • Be well sign-posted with directional signs at track entrances and junctions and have safety signs where required.
Walking tracks may:
  • Have steps on excessively steep areas.
  • Have timber boardwalks and bridges over permanent wet areas and waterways.
  • Have seats and maintained views at areas of interest.

Clearfell Track (Walking) Clearfell Track (Walking) ¾ hour - 1.8 km This multi-use walking and mountain biking track connects points on Oruawharo River Trail offering alternative loop options and the possibility of a shortcut back to the main car park from the Reservoir Walk. Follow the blue markers. Kauri Point Track (Walking) Kauri Point Track (Walking) 1.25 hour - 3.7 km This multi-use walking and mountain biking track branches off the Oruawharo River Trail and loops around Kauri Point. Oruawharo River Trail (Walking) Oruawharo River Trail (Walking) 3 hour - 7.8 km This multi-use walking, mountain biking and horse riding loop can be experienced in both directions. Reservoir Walk (Walking) Reservoir Walk (Walking) 2 hour - 5 km This multi-use walking, mountain biking and horse riding loop follows the farm track past the Pou Kaitiaki. Ti Tree Point Trail (Walking) Ti Tree Point Trail (Walking) ¼ hour - 1 km A short side trail leads out to Ti Tree Point from the intersection with the Oruawharo River Trail. It provides great views of the Oweka Tapu Pou, Solomon’s Bay and the Atiu Creek inlet. Click on the track name for further details. Walk to Solomons Bay Walk to Solomons Bay 2.25 hour - 7 km Starting from the car park; take the Oruawharo River Trail to Solomons Bay via the Cleafell Track. Walk to the Heretoka Pa Walk to the Heretoka Pa 1.25 hour - 3.5 km This is an easy ridge line trail to the Heretoka Pa site with great views of the surrounding estuaries to the north and south. Walk to the Woolshed Walk to the Woolshed ½ hour - 1.1 km Starting from the car park; take the road behind the notice board to the woolshed and discover its history, learn the story of the farm and the paddock names. Enjoy the shade of native bush and experience views from the Airstrip Paddock on the way.

Heritage Trail Heritage Trail 2 hour - 4 km Beginning at the Waterfall Gully car park; this is a fascinating walk with interpretive panels, historic sites, a WWII gun emplacement, native forest, farmland, views over Auckland, and a wetland. Click on the track name for further details. Okoromai Bay Link Track Okoromai Bay Link Track 1 hour - 2 km The Okoromai Track crosses the headland and links Okoromai Bay and Te Haruhi Bay. Okoromai Bay Wetlands Okoromai Bay Wetlands ¼ hour - 0.5 km This short walk through the wetlands starts behind the western end of the Okoromai Bay car park and returns along the Okoromai Bay access road. Maori Bay Coast Walk Maori Bay Coast Walk 1.5 hour - 4 km From the Lagoon carpark, wander around the south coast over the rocks to Maori Bay (access from mid to low tide only). At Maori Bay, join the South Coast Track for the return trip to the Lagoon carpark. North-South Coast Tracks (Walking) North-South Coast Tracks (Walking) 3.5 hour - 8 km This multi-use loop walking and mountain biking track takes you to the end of the peninsular for stunning views.
