Information

Please note that booking hours for regional parks campgrounds, SCC campgrounds, SCC parking areas, baches and bookable sites is as follows:

Daylight saving: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday through to Sunday
Non daylight saving: 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday through to Sunday

No bookings can be taken over the phone (or in person on site) outside of these times.

No cash payments are available at any time on park. We strongly recommend that you call our contact centre in advance of your arrival on park on (09) 366 2000, option 1, to make your booking.

Animals (except aid dogs) are prohibited at all times.

Remember to be a tidy Kiwi!

All our regional parks are rubbish free. Whether you call it rubbish, trash or garbage, please bag it all up and recycle it or throw it away when you return home.

Important notice

No heating is provided.  Please ensure you bring warm clothing and bedding.

About Puhoi Cottage

Open plan living and kitchen area, with two bed rooms and bath room off this area. Covered deck out from the lounge looking up the Puhoi Estuary, and one bedroom with access from the deck.

Booking restriction period: Off peak period is June-September (incl). Available for bookings from Friday (weekend daylight saving starts) to Easter Monday. Note: With the great weather we have extended the open season to Sunday 1st June. This bach can be booked up to six months from todays month. e.g. In June you may make a booking for a date in December.

Access: Accessible by water only. Suitable for kayaks, dinghies or small boats that can be hand-carried above high tide at the bach
Cleaning: Bach operates on a self-clean basis
Bedrooms:

Three bedrooms; One with two single beds, two rooms with a set of bunk beds in each. Please note: Top bunks are not recommended for children under 9yrs.

All beds have inner sprung mattresses with mattress protectors supplied. A pillow with pillow protector supplied for each bed.

Bathroom: Bathroom with shared shower and toilet
Kitchen: Electric fridge only, gas cooker, gas toasting grill, kettle for gas cooker, coffee plunger, pots/pans, cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery provided
Power: Restricted power supply:
  • There is no mains power supply to the bach. All power is supplied by batteries that are solar charged.
  • The power supply runs the fridge, lighting, gas cooker ignition and the septic system.
  • There is minimal lighting. Bring head lamp or torch for night reading is recommended.
  • There are NO power points in the bach.
Gas supply: Portable gas bottles. The gas supplies the cooker, and all hot water.
Water: Bore water, treated potable water.
Heating: No heating provided.  Or ability to run heaters in the bach. Ensure you have warm clothing, bedding and a hot water bottle.
Rubbish: This bach has no bins or rubbish disposal facilities at the bach or the regional park.  Please take all your rubbish home with you
You need to supply: Bed linen, blankets, duvets, sleeping bags, additional pillows, towels, tea towels, food, personal items etc.
Boat launching: There are no boat launching facilities or anchorage at the bach

Directions

Puhoi Cottage is only accessible by water. Suitable for kayaks, dinghies or small boats that can be hand-carried above high tide at the bach. Approx: 850 meters from the boat ramp, down the Puhoi River to the bach. Kayaking times vary from 10 to 20 minutes depending on the tide level/direction, and sand banks in the estuary. Then 20metre walk from river edge to bach. It is NOT possible to anchor boats in front of the bach. 

Note: The river is tidal and has strong tidal currents.
