From the small village of Huia, follow the road around the coastline past Little Huia. The road turns into Whatipu Road and cuts inland past the Little Huia ford (be careful at spring tides combined with heavy rain). As you travel uphill the road surface turns to gravel.

There are numerous tight corners and the road is not recommended for towing. At the end of Whatipu Road you will arrive at the Whatipu car park; the entrance to the campground is via bridge at the north end of the car park.

You will need to check in at the lodge to gain access.
